Mapping & Facilities Technician

Posted Jun 3, 2026 Full Time Field Operations, Logistics & Engineering Centralia, Eatonville, Ellensburg, Selah, Tacoma, Yelm

The Mapping & Facilities Technician supports Lightcurve's Construction and Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering team by maintaining an accurate, field-verified record of the company's fiber and HFC network. This role is responsible for updating network maps, capturing both legacy and newly constructed as-builts into the GIS mapping system, staking new build areas, and validating serviceability and as-built accuracy in the field. The technician bridges the office and the field, ensuring that what is recorded in the GIS reflects what is physically in the ground and on the poles.

This role directly impacts how we deliver on our promise to our customers and communities. By keeping our facility records accurate and our build areas correctly staked, this technician helps ensure projects are designed, permitted, and constructed right the first time—supporting safe, on-time, on-budget network growth and a dependable customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Mapping & GIS Records

  • Perform routine map updates to keep the GIS reflective of current and planned network facilities
  • Maintain accurate spatial and attribute data for fiber, HFC, and supporting outside plant infrastructure
  • Apply consistent mapping standards, symbology, and naming conventions across all records
  • Support data quality efforts by identifying, flagging, and correcting discrepancies in the mapping system

As-Built Management

  • Input both legacy (old) and newly constructed (new) as-builts into the GIS mapping system
  • Convert redlines, construction prints, and field sketches into accurate digital records
  • Reconcile as-built information against design drawings and permit documentation
  • Maintain version history and source documentation so records remain auditable

Field Staking & Construction Layout

  • Stake new build areas to mark proposed routes, facility locations, and construction boundaries
  • Interpret engineering designs and translate them to accurate field markings
  • Coordinate with utility locating (811 / one-call) and verify existing facilities prior to staking
  • Provide field-ready layout information to construction crews and contractors

Field Validation & Serviceability

  • Perform field validation of serviceability for addresses and structures within build and service areas
  • Confirm the presence, location, and condition of facilities required to deliver service
  • Verify as-builts in the field to ensure recorded data matches physical construction
  • Document field findings and route corrections back into the GIS and to engineering

Documentation & Data Integrity

  • Maintain organized, retrievable records of maps, as-builts, and field validation results
  • Ensure changes are captured promptly so downstream teams work from current information
  • Support reporting needs related to facilities, serviceability, and build progress

Collaboration, Safety & Compliance

  • Partner with OSP Engineering, Construction, Permitting, and field crews to keep records aligned
  • Follow all federal, state, and local regulations, along with Lightcurve safety practices

Technical Expertise

  • Working knowledge of GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS/QGIS) and/or fiber plant management systems (e.g., VETRO, OSPInsight)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction prints, engineering designs, redlines, and as-builts
  • Familiarity with fiber (FTTH) and HFC outside plant components—aerial and underground
