Business Technician I

The Business Technician I is a hands-on field technician who installs, turns up, and troubleshoots Lightcurve's commercial and business services. Working to the standards and design set by the Business Technician II and Engineering, the Business Technician I handles standard commercial and enterprise installations, surfaces any missing technical details before or during the install, and escalates complex work. This is a growth role on a path toward Business Technician II. As a customer-facing representative of Lightcurve on every job site, the Business Technician I conducts themselves professionally, coordinates on site with the customer and any other parties present, and keeps the Business Technician II and stakeholders informed of progress and any issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, provision, turn up, and troubleshoot enterprise Ethernet, GPON/XGS-PON, and business-class customer equipment
  • Execute business and enterprise installs to the design and standards set by the Business Technician II, surfacing any missing technical details before or during the install
  • Perform turn-ups and testing using standard procedures; install, replace, and maintain network electronics (card swaps, optics) in central offices, cabinets, and customer premises
  • Terminate, jumper, clean, scope, and troubleshoot fiber connectivity (OTDR and optical power)
  • Assist with technical site walks and complete accurate documentation, labeling, and equipment records
  • Serve as a professional, customer-facing representative of Lightcurve on the job site; coordinate on site with the customer and other parties present, and keep the Business Technician II informed of progress, dependencies, and any issues that arise
  • Coordinate with the NOC during activations and outages; escalate complex installs and troubleshooting to the Business Technician II
  • Maintain company-issued vehicle, tools, and test equipment; travel across service areas as needed

Experience and Qualifications

  • 2-4 years in telecommunications, networking, broadband, or field installation (or 1-2 years plus relevant training and aptitude)
  • Working knowledge of IP networking fundamentals and broadband technologies
  • Familiarity with fiber tools (cleaning, scoping, OTDR) and customer-premise installations
  • Valid driver's license, and the possession of and ability to maintain a non-negligent driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Preferred Certifications

  • CompTIA Network+ and Fiber Optic Association (FOA) (or willingness to obtain)
  • CCNA a plus

  • Meeting response and resolution timelines
  • Demonstrated growth toward the Business Technician II skill set

Location, Work Environment, and Requirements

  • Reports to Tacoma, WA; with travel across Lightcurve service areas (Tacoma, Eatonville, Centralia, Chehalis, Yelm, Ellensburg, Selah, and surrounding) required
  • Work is performed in customer premises, central offices, remote cabinets, outdoor environments, and office settings
  • May require after-hours maintenance, emergency restoration, and on-call rotation
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift and transport up to 50 lbs, and perform field work outdoors in varying weather
  • Ability to successfully complete background and drug screening

Compensation

  • This hourly position pays $33.30-$39.18
