What to expect during high-speed fiber internet construction

We’re excited to bring our high-speed, 100% fiber network to your neighborhood, but we know you may have questions about the process.

We want you to be informed every step of the way.  See what you can expect while we bring lightning-fast internet to your door.

Your step-by-step guide to fiber construction

    Fiber Route Planning

Working with local governments, municipalities, and community agencies, we plan the fiber route to follow public easements.

You may see survey crews in your neighborhood collecting important information to help us finalize the route and construction method (buried fiber or aerial fiber) we’ll use.

    Construction Prep

Before we begin, we’ll notify the neighborhood that construction is about to start and conduct prep work. This includes marking public utilities to ensure that our crews can work safely and avoid interruptions to local utility services.

You’ll see flags and water-based spray paint in the public easements along roadways and sidewalks to mark the underground utilities such as water and gas lines. During aerial construction, our prep work may include tree trimming along public easements (as required by the local utility company) to remove branches approaching the aerial lines.

We’ll work to keep disruptions to a minimum while also ensuring the safety of our construction crews and complying with local requirements.

    Fiber Construction

Once we start installing fiber, you’ll see construction crews in your neighborhood. Crews will be working in the public easements near your property to set fiber access points. Fiber may be installed by burying underground conduits and pulling fiber cables through them. If fiber is installed aerially, the crews will be in bucket trucks pulling the fiber from pole to pole.

If you purchase and once the fiber installation is complete, our crews will connect your home and test the internet connection.

    Restoration

Once fiber construction is complete, our crews will work to restore the public easements to their pre-construction state.

Our crews will collect tools and materials, remove construction debris and secure cables. Depending on the method of construction, they may even perform sweeping of the area and re-seeding of any ground disturbed in the public easement.

    Ready for Service

After the new fiber network is complete, we’ll begin installations in your neighborhood.

    Lightcurve Fiber FAQs

    What is Lightcurve Fiber?
Lightcurve Fiber is a Tacoma-based internet service provider that uses fiber optic cables to deliver state-of-the-art internet service to your home. Fiber internet technology offers the fastest and most reliable internet speeds available.
What's the difference between fiber and cable or DSL?
Fiber optic internet uses light pulses for data transmission, resulting in significantly faster speeds and more reliable connections compared to traditional cable or DSL. Fiber is less susceptible to interference and weather and provides a clearer, more consistent signal.
    Why should I choose fiber?
Today, families use more devices and data than ever. Fiber provides a way for more data to stream to your home without stalling, even with multiple devices. With Lightcurve Fiber, you’ll:
    • Experience lightning-fast internet symmetrical speeds for seamless browsing, streaming, gaming, and downloading.
    • Enjoy a more reliable connection with no interruptions, even during peak usage times.
    • Future-proof your home for evolving internet needs and bandwidth demands.
    • Benefit from clear and consistent pricing with no promotional gimmicks.
    Why are symmetrical speeds important?
When you purchase cable internet or DSL, the advertised speed is typically only the download speed. Upload speeds – which are usually much slower and buried in the fine print – are make-or-break for your online experience. With high-speed fiber, you get symmetrical speeds, where download and upload speed are the same. Always.

Symmetrical speeds enable fast sharing of large files, smooth video calls, uninterrupted streaming, and productive remote work. By choosing Lightcurve Fiber’s symmetrical speeds, you're choosing superior internet.
    What is fiber optic cabling?
Fiber optic cables are thin strands of glass that transmit data using light pulses. This technology allows for significantly faster and more reliable internet connections compared to traditional copper cables.
What are the benefits of fiber optic cabling?
    • Superior Speed: Experience ultra-fast internet speeds for a lag-free online experience.
    • Exceptional Reliability: Enjoy a consistent and reliable connection, free from interference caused by weather or other factors.
    • High-Bandwidth Capacity: Fiber optic cables can handle large amounts of data, perfect for supporting multiple devices and future internet demands.
What does Gigabit internet speed mean?
Gigabit internet (1 Gbps) is a measurement of internet speed. It's 100 times faster than the national average internet speed of 10 Mbps. This translates to:
    • Instantaneous web browsing with no lag.
    • Immersive and lag-free online gaming experiences.
    • Simultaneous streaming of multiple high-definition movies throughout your home.
    • Faster downloads of movies, music, photos, and games.
How does fiber optic internet benefit my changing online habits?
Fiber optic internet provides the bandwidth you need to keep up with ever-increasing online demands. From automatically playing videos on social media platforms to automatic cloud syncing across devices, fiber optic internet ensures a smooth and uninterrupted experience.
    Is Lightcurve Fiber's pricing consistent?
Yes, we believe in clear and transparent, everyday pricing.
What happens if I move to an area without Lightcurve Fiber?
There are no penalties for canceling Lightcurve Fiber service if you relocate to an area where we don't currently offer the service. If you’re planning a move, be sure to get in touch with our Customer Service team to explore all the great products available at your new location.
