HDTV is available in many, but not all areas. Call Rainier Connect today at 253.683.4100 to learn if there’s service in your area.
In order to use Rainier Connect’s HDTV service an HDTV set is required. To identify if your TV set is HD-ready, refer to the following requirements:
- Your TV Set must be “HD-ready” or “HD-Capable”
- Display picture in 1080i or 720p resolution. Refer to your TV set’s owner’s manual for reference to 1080i and 720p.
- You also need a television channel which is broadcasting in High Definition.
A digital-cable-ready TV is television that can receive digital cable service using a device that is about the size of a credit card, called a CableCARD, instead of a set-top box.
Although you may watch your DVDs on an HDTV set you will not be watching in true High Definition. The DVD format was developed prior to HDTV and does not utilize HDTV technology. DVD can use the 16:9 aspect ratio of an HDTV set and eventually the DVD-video format will be upgraded to an “HD-DVD” format. If you buy one of today’s DVD players, it will not be able to play HDTV discs when they come out.
Dolby Pro Logic features four channels: front left, center, front right and a mono surround channel that is usually split between two rear speakers.
Dolby Digital Surround Sound is an advanced form of digital audio coding that makes it possible to store and transmit high-quality digital sound far more efficiently than previously possible. It exploits characteristics of human hearing and gives a listener/viewer a more realistic feeling.
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound is an audio coding technique capable of delivering sound with five discrete full-range channels–left, center, right, left surround, and right surround–plus a sixth channel for those powerful low-frequency effects that are felt more than heard in movie theaters. This is commonly known as the subwoofer. The subwoofer needs only about one-tenth the bandwidth of the others and is referred to as a “.1” channel. Therefore, the entire group of channels is named Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.
