FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELLENSBURG, WA, May 22, 2025 – Lightcurve and Kittitas County announced today a partnership to build fiber networks that will bring high-speed internet to rural Kittitas communities. The new fiber builds—slated for completion in Fall 2025—will improve connectivity for Kittitas residents and local businesses.
Kittitas County received $3.3 million in funding through the Washington State Public Works Board Broadband Program ARPA Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund Grant. The grant is designed to bring high-speed, or broadband internet, to unserved or underserved communities. Kittitas County contracted local internet service provider Lightcurve to build and operate the fiber network, which will serve approximately 400 homes in the Thorp and Edgemont areas of the county.
“This project, along with over $30 million worth of others currently awarded and awaiting construction, represents a significant step forward for our rural residents to have the same access to information and technology as those in urban areas,” said Kittitas County Commissioner Cory Wright. “I am proud to see the result of years of county preparation and building partnerships with our local internet providers now under construction, and we will continue our efforts to expand broadband availability across Kittitas County.”
Currently, many rural areas in Kittitas County don’t have access to high-speed broadband internet. The fiber networks in Kittitas County will provide residents with symmetrical (download and upload) speeds initially up to 2,000Mbps, making it easy for them to access opportunities for remote work, e-commerce, telehealth and online learning.
“Access to fast, reliable internet is no longer a luxury — it’s a necessity for work, education, healthcare, and staying connected,” said Anand Vadapalli, President and CEO of Lightcurve. “We’re proud to partner with Kittitas County to bring future-ready fiber internet to rural communities like Thorp and Edgemont. This project reflects our commitment to local investment, local service, and local impact.”
The project is currently in the design phase and is expected to be operational this Fall.
