Field Design Engineer

Position Summary

The Telecommunications Field Design Engineer will work closely with contract engineers and construction teams as well as PMO team to review new FTTP designs to comply with Lightcurve design standards as well as city, county, and state regulations. This role is crucial for ensuring projects proceed efficiently within Lightcurve standards and in compliance with governmental regulations. Contractors will be used to create the actual design, but must be reviewed and approved by this position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • FTTP Design Management – Review contractor prepared FTTP designs to meet Lightcurve design requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance – Review FTTP designs to confirm meet all contractual agreements, municipal ordinances, and state/federal regulations related to utility pole attachments, conduit use, and ROW work.
  • Coordination & Communication – Serve as the primary point of contact for Lightcurve with the contract engineers and communicate any updates/revisions/changes need to design. This will include maintaining continuous communication with them to insure design approvals are moving as fast as possible.
  • Documentation & Record Keeping – Maintain meticulous records of all design projects, timelines, and progress in project management databases.
  • Technical Review – Review engineering designs and construction plans (make-ready analysis, strand maps, plats) to ensure Lightcurve Design standards are met as well as compliance with city/county/state requirements and standards. Work closely with permitting counter parts who will perform the permitting analysis.
  • Process Improvement – Identify and implement efficiencies in the design process to reduce cycle times and project delays.

Qualifications

  • Experience – Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in telecommunications, utilities, or construction design, specifically FTTP design.
  • Knowledge – Strong understanding of FTTP design and construction standards.
  • Skills – Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Software Proficiency – Competency in GIS mapping tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and tracking software.
  • Education – Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience in a related field such as planning, engineering, or project management.
  • Communication – Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective negotiation and technical correspondence.
  • Valid driver’s license with non-negligent driving record.
  • Ability to complete and satisfactorily complete all background checks and screenings.
  • Current first aid, CPR, or Flagger training a plus.

Location & Working Conditions

  • This position will be required to report daily to the locally assigned project areas. No remote work will be possible.
  • Ability to work in indoor/outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent sitting, typing, viewing computers, driving, standing, walking, climbing, lifting up to 75 lbs, and possible occasional use of hand/power tools.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, when required for project completion.

Compensation

  • This full-time salary position pays $89,000-$112,000 annually
  • Reimbursable mileage/travel as needed
